Liquid Films

Liquid films, flowing under the action of gravity, exhibit a range of intriguing flow phenomena. Falling films can be viewed as simple prototypes of open-flow hydrodynamic and nonlinear systems in general, and therefore their study has attracted considerable fundamental and
theoretical interest; beyond this, however, such flows play a central role in the development of high-performance, effective, and compact heat- and mass-transfer components in a wide variety of practical applications. These include, among others, wetted-wall absorbers, heat exchangers, film condensers, evaporators or reactors, and microcooling schemes.
